Trinity Baptist Church – Sherman, Texas Membership Covenant

Biblical obligations of individual members to God and to the entire church body

I have received Jesus Christ as my Lord – the leader of my life – and my Savior – the forgiver of my sins. I agree with the stated Mission and Vision of Trinity Baptist Church and I am led by the Holy Spirit to participate with other members of this church to accomplish the vision that God has set before us. Therefore, I make the following covenant in writing (Neh 9:38), as a member of this church body (1 Cor. 12:14) while relying on the power and grace of God:

 
           *I commit to our journey to be a God-centered people, and in doing so I promise to:
                    -Accept God’s direction as the highest authority and encourage fellow church members to do the same.
                    -Strive to love God with all of my heart, mind, soul and strength.
                    -Worship God regularly together with the church body.
              (2 Tim. 3:16-17; Mark 12:24; Deut. 6:4-9; Ps. 63:1; Matt. 22:37; Heb. 10:24-25)
 

           *I commit to our journey to be a Bible-driven people, and in doing so I promise to:
                     *Honor the Bible as God’s true word and submit to it as the direction and ultimate authority for my life.
                     *Value the Bible higher than my own opinion, my own experience, church tradition or a business model.
                     *Support Bible-saturated teaching and the development of leaders to disciple others.
                     *Pursue the Lord Jesus Christ through regular Bible reading and regular organized Bible study.
          (Deut. 11:18-19; Ps. 19:7-10, 119:105; Matt. 22:29; Rom. 12:2; 2 Tim. 3:14-17; James 1:22-25; 2 Pet. 1:20-21).
 

          *I commit to our journey to be a people devoted to God, and in doing so I promise to:
                    *Strive for a personal, intimate daily devotion to God and acknowledge God’s supreme worth in my prayer and worship.
                    *Participate in regular prayer sessions that give thanks in all circumstances.
                    *Pursue personal holiness by living according to biblical commands.
                    *Be an advocate for the weak, voiceless and oppressed.
                    *Honor God’s command to be pure by abstaining from sexual immorality, substance abuse, and lawlessness.

          * I commit to our journey to be an authentic community, and in doing so I promise to:
                    -Remember that the lost and unchurched world needs to see Christ in me.
                    -Genuinely welcome persons from every walk of life with a goal of sharing the gospel with them.
                    -Abstain from all forms of gossip, especially any speech that slanders fellow church members, church leaders, or other 
                      churches, and will seek to stop such speech in my presence.
                    -Willingly accept any confession of sin by a fellow church member, with a heart reflecting the forgiveness of Christ.
                    -Prayerfully accept biblical correction from fellow church members with a spirit of humility.
                    -Submit to the leaders of the church, for they are keeping watch over our souls.
                    -Regularly engage in discipleship-focused sessions such as Sunday morning Bible study and home groups.

          *I commit to our journey to be a missional people, and in doing so I promise to:
                    -Serve Christ effectively in some ministry, either within or outside the church, helping meet the needs of others both
                      physically and spiritually.
                    -Engage in relationships with the goal to share the gospel, believing the Holy Spirit is ready and able to change hearts
                     and lives.
                    -Regularly disciple my children through Gospel-centered devotions and prayer.
          (Matt. 5:14-16, 20:25-28, 28:18-20; Lk. 10:29-37; Rom. 10:14-15, 12:4-8; 2 Cor. 5:17-20; Eph. 4:11-14; 1 Pet.4:10-11;

          *I commit to our journey to seek continuous spiritual growth, and in doing so I promise to:
                    -Treasure God and seek to be transformed by a growing knowledge of and devotion to Christ.
                    -Utilize my spiritual gifts to serve Christ, and encourage other church members discover and use theirs, so we can be fully
                      equipped for the work of the ministry.
                    -Cheerfully contribute to God’s work through regular financial support, motivated by growing love and devotion to Him.
